RP Lumber sued over visitor's alleged fall on ice

A man has filed suit against the lumber company where he alleges he fell on a patch of ice.

David White alleges he was visiting defendant R.P. Lumber Company on Feb. 12, 2014, when he was walking to the pavement. There, he encountered an ice patch, causing him to slip and fall, according to the complaint filed Jan. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of his fall, White suffered injuries to his right shoulder, experienced pain of his body and mind, incurred medical costs and lost money, the suit states.

White blames R.P. Lumber for causing his fall, saying the company negligently failed to maintain the premises in a safe condition, failed to monitor the pavement to prevent unnatural accumulations of ice and snow, failed to clean the ice and snow and installed a downspout on its property that caused water and ice to accumulate.

White seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Attorney Samuel A. Mormino Jr., of Mormino, Velloff and Snider in Alton, will represent White.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-56.
