Man alleges intoxicated driver caused injuries in collision

A man has filed suit against an allegedly intoxicated driver whom he says struck his vehicle while driving in the wrong lane.

Patrick L. Scott Jr. filed suit Dec. 29, 2014, in Madison County Circuit Court against Stephen P. Szakielo.

According to the complaint, Scott was driving north on Scott Troy Road in Lebanon Township on June 12, 2014, at about 1:57 a.m. when defendant Szakielo, who was driving south on the same road, failed to stay within his lane and struck Scott's vehicle.

Because of the collision, Scott suffered neck, mid-back and lower back injuries, incurred medical costs and endured disability and physical restrictions, the suit states. He also lost his earning potential, the complaint says.

Scott blames Szakielo for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove while intoxicated, failed to keep his vehicle on the right side of the road, crossed the center line, drove too fast, failed to apply his brakes to avoid a collision and failed to yield the right-of-way.

Scott seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. Attorney W. Michael Gnavi, of Gnavi Law Offices in Collinsville, will represent Scott.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1776.
