Woman alleges injuries after her bike struck large crack in sidewalk

A woman has filed suit against the city of Lebanon, alleging she sustained injuries when the front tire of her bicycle struck a crack in the sidewalk.

Danielle Long filed suit Dec. 22, 2014, in St. Clair County Court against the City of Lebanon citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Long was riding her bike near 802 College Ave. in Lebanon on May 6, 2014, when the front tire became embedded in a "large" crack in the sidewalk, causing her to lose control of the bike.

Because of the incident, Long suffered a tibial plateau fracture, incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering, lost her normal life and lost wages, according to the complaint.

She blames the city for contributing to her injuries, saying it negligently failed to maintain the sidewalk in a safe condition, failed to repair the sidewalk, failed to warn bicyclists that its sidewalk was not safe, failed to prevent vehicles from parking along the street and failed to enforce no parking signs on College Avenue.

Long seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She is represented by attorney John H. Leskera of Leskera Law Firm in Collinsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-830.
