Motorist claims vehicle swerved in front of her and suddenly stopped on I-55

A motorist has filed suit against the driver whom she alleges cut in front of her, then suddenly braked.

Jeanene Clubbs alleges she was driving on Interstate 55 near mile post 9 in Nameoki Township on Oct. 9, 2013, when defendant Nicholas L. Smith swerved in front of her and suddenly stopped.

"The defendant's automobile collided with the automobile driven by the plaintiff causing the plaintiff to sustain severe and permanently disabling injuries," the suit filed Dec. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court states about both Smith and co-defendant Kristina D Forneris.

In addition to her injuries, Clubbs sustained mental anguish and disfigurement, lost her enjoyment of life and lost wages, according to the complaint. She also incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Smith negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, the complaint says.

Clubbs seeks a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by attorney Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin of Belleville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1664.
