Passenger involved in Alton accident files injury suit

A woman alleges she suffered injuries after a driver struck the vehicle in which she was riding.

Margaret Gleason filed a lawsuit Dec. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against William Manus Sr.

In her complaint, Gleason alleges she was riding as a passenger in a vehicle Quincy Watley was driving on Corner Court in Alton on March 15, 2013, when Manus pulled out from a private driveway and struck the vehicle in which Gleason was riding.

Because of the incident, Gleason suffered neck, back, chest and right knee injuries, incurred medical costs and was prevented from attending to her usual duties, according to the complaint.

Gleason blames Manus for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove in a reckless fashion, failed to exercise ordinary care, failed to stop to avoid hitting the vehicle in which Gleason was riding, failed to yield the right-of-way and failed to keep a proper lookout.

Gleason seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. Attorney William E. Miller III of Alton will represent Gleason.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1657.
