Father sues over daughter's injuries crossing Collinsville street

A Madison County man filed suit on behalf of his daughter for injuries she allegedly sustained while walking across a street.

John Brummel, on behalf of his daughter Cadie Brummel, filed suit Nov. 21 in St. Clair County Court against Nicholas Kostielney.

According to the complaint, Cadie Brummel was walking across the street April 19, 2013, on Johnson Hill Road, near the intersection of Rolling Oaks Drive in Collinsville. Kostielney was driving his 2003 Ford Expedition north on Johnson Hill Road, the suit states, and collided with the younger Brummel, causing substantial bodily injury.

John Brummel alleges the defendant is guilty of failing to look out for other people in the roadway, failing to apply the brakes, operating his car at excessive speed and not taking special precautions to avoid hitting his daughter. As a result of the collision, the suit states, Cadie Brummel suffered bodily injuries and has had to undergo many medical treatments, including suffering a permanent disability.

The Brummels seek in excess of $50,000 for damages and injuries. They are represented by attorney John Papa of Callis, Papa, Hale & Szewczyk of Granite City.

St. Clair County Court case number: 14-L-1605.
