Shiloh rear-end accident is subject of suit

A woman claims she suffered neck, shoulder, arm and back injuries after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Heaunitia Peoples filed a lawsuit Nov. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Kathryn A. Empkey-Fernandez.

In her complaint, Peoples claims she was driving east on Thouvenot, west of its intersection with Hartman Lane in Shiloh on Nov. 27, 2012. Empkey-Fernandez, who was driving in the same direction, rear-ended her vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to her various injuries, Peoples incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and endured disability because of the collision, the suit states. She also lost her enjoyment of life and lost wages, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Peoples blames Empkey-Fernandez for causing the collision, saying she failed to keep a proper lookout.

Peoples seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Michael L. McGlynn of McGlynn and McGlynn in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-769.
