A man claims he incurred medical costs after falling on slippery steps at the courthouse.
Willie Vaughn filed a lawsuit Nov. 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Clair County.
In his complaint, Vaughn alleges he was exiting the courthouse when he slipped and fell on ice.
In addition to his medical costs, Vaughn experienced pain and suffering, according to the complaint.
He blames the county for causing his fall, saying it negligently failed to clean up water that had accumulated, failed to divert the water from the plastic shell over the walkway, failed to warn of a slick area and failed to prevent individuals from walking across the accumulation of water.
In his complaint, Vaughn is seeking a judgment of more than $75,000, plus costs.
He will be represented by Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. of Keefe and Keefe in Belleville.
