Man sues doctors who allegedly failed to diagnose painful injury

A man has filed suit against the doctor whom he alleges failed to diagnose a boil near his anus, causing him intense pain.

Gary L. Morris alleges he visited defendant O'Fallon Medical Center on Nov. 27, 2012, and was seeing defendant physician's assistant Vanessa M. Stults and defendant Dr. Kevin L. Pritchett. However, they failed to properly examine him and to diagnose him with a perirectal abscess, according to the complaint filed Nov. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In turn, Morris lost a chance for a more favorable outcome, suffered permanent pain, mental anguish and disability and endured disfigurement, the suit states. He also lost his enjoyment of life and incurred medical costs, the complaint says.

Morris blames the defendants for causing his injuries, saying they negligently failed to properly communicate information regarding his symptoms and failed to properly refer him to a qualified physician.

Morris seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Attorney Devin M. Jones, of Harris Jones Law Firm in DuQuoin, will represent Morris.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-762.
