Bicyclist sues over Route 157 auto accident injuries

A Macoupin County man says he sustained injuries when a driver allegedly struck the bicycle on which he was riding.

According to a lawsuit filed Nov. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court, Samuel Piper says he was biking east on the crosswalk on state Route 157 in Alton on Aug. 2 when defendant Mary Kasperzick, who was driving a 1997 Ford Escort north on state Route 157 approaching its intersection, struck him.

Because of the collision, Piper sustained temporary and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs and is prevented from attending to his usual duties, according to the complaint.

Kasperzick negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control and failed to brake, the suit states.

In his complaint, Piper seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Attorney Lanny Darr, of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton, will represent Piper.
