Pedestrian alleges injuries in Alton accident

A woman alleges she sustained temporary and permanent injuries when a driver struck her as she was attempting to cross the street.

Jenelle Brooks alleges she was crossing Henry Street in Alton in the crosswalk on Oct. 31 when defendant James R. Miller, who was driving his 1997 Chevrolet Conventional Cab west on Landmarks Boulevard, struck her, according to a lawsuit filed Nov. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Brooks sustained temporary and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs and was prevented from attending to her usual duties, according to the complaint.

Brooks blames Miller for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control and failed to brake.

In her complaint, Brooks seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Attorney Shawn Lintz, of The Lintz Law Firm in Alton, will represent Brooks.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1544.
