Two women say they sustained various injuries in a rear-end collision.
Brandi E. Selph and Kelsey D. Gallia filed a lawsuit Oct. 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Curt Wolters and Elite Properties Landscaping.
In their complaint, Selph and Gallia allege Selph was driving on Pontoon Road in Granite City on Oct. 22, 2013, when Wolters, who was driving on the same road, struck the back of the vehicle.
Because of the collision, Selph suffered disability and disfigurement, suffered great pain and mental anguish and lost earnings, according to the complaint. She also incurred medical costs and suffered a seriously diminished earning capacity, the suit states.
The plaintiffs blame Wolters for causing the collision, saying he negligently ran into the rear of Selph's vehicle, drove while distracted, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, drove in such a manner as to strike the back of the vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes and failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision.
They also name Elite Properties Landscaping as a defendant, saying Wolters was working for Elite at the time of the collision.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. Attorney Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton will represent Selph and Gallia.
