A man has filed suit against the driver whom he alleges fell asleep, then rear-ended his vehicle.

John Barstow filed a lawsuit Oct. 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jacob A. Siburt.

In his complaint, Barstow alleges he was stopped at the intersection of Williamsburg Street and Park Street when Siburt fell asleep and rear-ended his vehicle at 50 to 60 miles per hour.

Because of the collision, Barstow suffered severe injuries to the nerves, disks and bones in his neck and back, and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. He also experienced pain and suffering, endured disability, lost his enjoyment of life and lost wages, the suit states.

Barstow seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Attorney Michael L. McGlynn of McGlynn and McGlynn in Belleville will represent Barstow.
