The mother of a minor child alleges her daughter sustained a variety of injuries in a collision.
Andrela Spencer filed a lawsuit Oct. 21 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Paris R. Garrett.
In her complaint, Spencer alleges her daughter, Jaliah M. Pelly, was riding in a vehicle traveling east on state Route 161 near its intersection with Morgan Street in Swansea on Feb. 22. Suddenly, Garrett, who was driving west on the same road, made an improper left-hand turn and struck Spencer's vehicle, according to the complaint.
Because of the collision, Pelly sustained various injuries and a permanent disability while her mother incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Spencer blames Garrett for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision.
Attorney Brad L. Badgley of Belleville will represent Spencer.
Spencer seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
