Plaintiffs in an automobile accident in East St. Louis claim they suffered numerous injuries as a result of a rear-end collision on Missouri Avenue.
Donnell Black and Petral Stephens filed the two-count complaint against Charles E. McBarton on Oct. 27 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court.
According to the complaint, Black was driving his vehicle east on Missouri Avenue in East St. Louis on June 5 with Stephens riding along as a passenger when McBarton allegedly failed to stop his vehicle from hitting Black’s automobile in the rear, causing Black to sustain injuries.
McBarton is accused of negligence for failing to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles; driving the vehicle in such a manner as to cause it to strike the rear of another vehicle; failing to properly apply the brakes, driving the vehicle at an excessive rate of speed; following Black’s vehicle more closely than was reasonable and proper and operating the vehicle upon the highway without it being equipped with brakes adequate to stop the vehicle.
Black and Stephens claim they became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and suffered internal and external injuries to their heads, bodies and limbs as a result of the collision.
More specifically, Black claims he sustained injuries to his neck, back, soft tissues of the cervical, shoulder and lumbar area, including the muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
Stephens claims she sustained injuries to her neck, chest, shoulder, hip, back, soft tissues of the cervical, shoulder and lumbar area, including the muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
Both plaintiffs allege they suffered disability as a result of his injuries.
They also claim they expended money for necessary medical care, treatment and services and will be required to pay for future medical expenses.
The plaintiffs seek a judgment of more than $50,000 for each count plus costs of this suit, “adequate to fairly and reasonably compensate” them for their damages
