Gordon Trucking, Sedgwick CMS seek to recover damages paid in Godfrey accident

A Madison County woman is accused of ignoring a red light and crashing into a semi-truck in Godfrey.

Gordon Trucking and Sedgwick CMS, as subrogees of Gary Huff, filed a lawsuit Oct. 7 in Madison County Circuit Court against Carolyn Louise Smith.

According to the complaint, Huff worked for Gordon Trucking and was driving a truck north on Godfrey Road in October 2012. At the same time, Huff says, Smith was driving east on Martin Luther King Drive and tried to turn onto Godfrey Road. However, Huff claims Smith ran a red turn light, drove her car into his path and caused a collision.

Huff says his back was hurt in the crash so he filed a workers' compensation claim. Gordon Trucking and Sedgwick CMS are trying to recoup the damages they paid to Huff and claim Smith is negligently responsible for Huff's injuries. They ask to be awarded more than $100,000 plus court costs.

Attorney Matthew A Brewer of Peoria represents the plaintiffs.
