Pocahontas blamed for citizen's fractured knee

The Village of Pocahontas is being sued after a woman allegedly broke her leg while walking on a public sidewalk.

Kathy Eader filed the lawsuit against the Village of Pocahontas on Oct. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Eader was walking on a sidewalk on the south side of the post office in November 2013. She says the sidewalk was uneven and broken, causing her to trip on a depressed section of pavement. She allegedly fell to the ground, fractured her knee and suffered other injuries.

Eader accuses the Village of Pocahontas of negligence for failing to maintain a safe sidewalk and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court fees.

She is represented by attorney James E. Gorman of Edwardsville.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-1380.
