An Edwardsville man claims a drunk driver ran a stop sign at an intersection and crashed into him.
Robert R. and Kathy A. Markiewicz filed a lawsuit Oct. 2 in Madison County Circuit Court against Jonathan D. Schienschang and Anthony J. Gonzales.
Robert Markiewicz says he was driving his Ford Focus west on Hillsboro Avenue on Aug. 3 near the four-way stop intersection of Buchanan Street. At the same time, Schienschang was allegedly driving a Nissan Sentra, owned by Gonzales, north on Buchanan.
According to the complaint, Robert began to drive through the intersection after stopping and was hit by Schienschang, who allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. The Markiewiczes claim Schienschang was drunk at the time of the crash. They are suing Schienschang and Gonzales for negligence and loss of consortium. The Markiewiczes ask for more than $200,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and costs of the lawsuit.
Attorney Eric J. Carlson of Edwardsville represents the Markiewiczes.
