Fairview Heights restaurant named in slip-and-fall complaint

A Fairview Heights restaurant is being sued after an alleged broken air conditioner led to a customer slipping on a wet floor.

Sara D. Worley filed a lawsuit Sept. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Shogun Steakhouse of Japan Inc.

On Aug. 22 Worley was a customer of the Shogun Steakhouse in the 300 block of Fountains Parkway, according to the complaint. Worley says it was very hot inside the building and she was told by a waitress that the air conditioner was not working. As she was leaving the restaurant, Worley claims she walked from the carpeted dining room into the tiled bar area and slipped on the wet floor. Worley says she was seriously hurt in the fall.

Worley alleges the moisture accumulated on the tile floor because the broken air conditioner created a humid environment. She accuses the restaurant of negligence for failing to repair the air conditioner or warn customers the floor was wet. Worley asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court costs.

Attorney Brad L. Badgley of Belleville represents her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-662.
