Belleville woman accused of running red light, causing crash

A Belleville woman is accused of running a red light and causing a crash at a St. Clair County intersection.

Claire R. Masterson filed a lawsuit against Sandra L. Wenzel on Sept. 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

The alleged crash happened on Aug. 30, 2013, at the intersection of Old Collinsville Road and Frank Scott Parkway, according to the complaint. Masterson says she was driving north on Old Collinsville Road and had a green arrow indicating a safe turn onto Frank Scott Parkway. She contends Wenzel, driving south on Old Collinsville Road, was "confronted with a red stoplight" but failed to stop.

Wenzel allegedly drove into the intersection and hit Masterson's car as it made the turn onto Frank Scott Parkway. Masterson accuses the defendant of negligence for allegedly failing to maintain a proper lookout and failing to yield the right of way.

Masterson seeks more than $50,000 in damages for injuries to her body, neck and back, which she says resulted in disability, disfigurement and caused her "great physical pain and mental anguish."

Attorney Matthew J. Marlen of Belleville represents Masterson.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 14-L-644.
