To the Editor:
The commercial showing Pat Quinn visiting a Ford plant is old news from 2010 used to defeat Brady four years ago. The commercial seems misleading when we consider what has happened since 2010. Quinn increased taxes in 2011 a staggering 67 percent, promising to pay off debt, create jobs, and erase the unfunded pension liability. But he kept none of those promises. Instead, Illinois still owes $7 billion, pays its bills late, and increased the unfunded pension liability to $100 billion. Sixty percent of the jobs Quinn created are part time. In fact, according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics, in 2014, Illinois lost jobs.
Minorities and others in the Metro East should be aware black and latino employment collapsed under Quinn. The figures from Illinois Department of Employment Security show from 2011 to 2013 Illinois was dead last in job creation in the Midwest.
Latino employment has plunged 6.4 percent from 2006 to 2013 while black male employments fell 10 percent from 2006 to 2013.
Consider that from 2011 to 2013 Illinois increased food stamp rolls by 244,000. Food stamps may get people by but don’t solve the problem. Go to the food banks and see the beaten look of dejection on people’s faces. Those faces tell the story of Quinn’s failed policies. Quinn’s policies may harm minorities and small businesses.
This election, Quinn promises the same policies. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Time for a new governor.
