Man suing over Collinsville collision claims he was in coma for three weeks

Two drivers are accused of negligence in a three-vehicle crash in Collinsville.

Harold Harmon filed the complaint against Sharon J. Spears and Karen Budnicki on Aug. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the lawsuit, on April 22 Harmon was a passenger in a vehicle driving south on state Route 157 near the intersection with state Route 162 in Collinsville. Harmon says Spears and Budnicki both were driving vehicles south on Route 157 in the same area.

Harmon says Spears made a left turn in front of oncoming traffic causing the three vehicles to collide. He alleges he received extensive injuries and was in a coma for three weeks following the crash.

Harmon accuses Spears and Budnicki of negligence for failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to yield to oncoming traffic and failing to properly apply the brakes to avoid a crash. He is asking for more than $50,000 in damages for medical care, pain and suffering.

Attorney John H. Hustava of Collinsville represents Harmon.

The case number is Madison County Circuit case 14-L-1178
