Jacobsmeyers Tavern sued over woman's slip on ice and snow

A woman injured while exiting Jacobsmeyers Tavern in Granite City in January claims the establishment failed to apply salt to the exit's steps.

Ashley Montes filed suit against the bar on Aug. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Montes claims the incident occurred at 1 a.m. on Jan. 11. Jacobsmeyers Tavern is located at 2401 Edwards St.

In addition to blaming the defendant for failing to keep the exit free from ice and snow, she claims it failed to have a handrail attached to the exit platform, in violation of the national building code. She further claims the defendant failed to attach a canopy covering the landing and steps to keep off ice and snow.

Montes states she suffered a fractured femur and fibula, dislocated her knee and suffered pain.

She is represented by John Hustava of Collinsville, and seeks in excess of $50,000 in damages.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-1177.
