A man says he suffered internal and external injuries when a driver failed to control his speed and caused a collision.
George W. Youngbauer filed a lawsuit Aug. 4 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Matthew J. Cates.
In his complaint, Youngbauer says he was riding in a vehicle on Highway 162 in Granite City on Aug. 15, 2012, when Cates, who was driving on the same road, ran into the vehicle in which Youngbauer was riding.
In addition to his injuries, Youngbauer suffered great pain and mental anguish, lost earning and incurred medical costs because of the collision, according to the complaint.
Cates negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner so as to strike Youngbauer's vehicle, failed to properly apply the brakes, failed to reduce his speed to avoid an accident and drove too fast, the suit states.
Youngbauer is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is being represented by attorney Gregory M. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin in East Alton.
