St. Jude Medical sued by heart patient claiming device incessantly shocked him

A heart patient is suing after an implanted device allegedly malfunctioned.

Robert C. Walta filed a lawsuit Aug. 7 in the St. Clair Circuit against St. Jude Medical, citing negligence.

The complaint states doctors implanted a device and heart lead into Walta May 1, 2007. The device and lead, designed and manufactured by the defendant, allegedly failed Dec. 14, 2013, and incessantly shocked Walta, the complaint states. Walta suffered severe and permanent injuries and will need ongoing medical care because of the incident, according to the complaint.

Walta is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages. He is represented by attorney Harry Sterling of Sterling and Dowling P.C. of Fairview Heights.
