Another asbestos suit filed in St. Clair County

The family of a St. Clair County man is suing over claims he died of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

Janis Baker, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Alfred Baker, deceased, filed a lawsuit July 30 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against dozens of companies including Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. and Union Carbide Corporation.

According to the complaint, Alfred Baker was exposed to asbestos in products designed, manufactured, distributed, marketed and sold by the defendant companies through his various employment capacities as a plumber, welder, laborer and mechanic. The complaint states Alfred was diagnosed with the asbestos-induced disease lung cancer Nov. 20, 2012, due to the defendant companies' negligence, and he died from the disease May 3, 2012.

Janis Baker is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. She is being represented in the case by attorneys Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates P.C. in Edwardsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No. 14-L-571.
