A couple is suing a doctor over allegations he didn't diagnose a mini stroke.
Rosemary and Larry Klinke filed a lawsuit July 30 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Raghu Kanumuri M.D., citing negligence.
The lawsuit states Rosemary Klinke was admitted to the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital under Kanumuri's care Dec. 9, with symptoms of a mini stroke. According to the complaint, the doctor failed to recognize she had a mini stroke, didn't admit her for stroke work up, failed to refer her to a neurologist, failed to do proper diagnostic testing and failed to treat her to avoid another stroke and discharged her without further stroke work up and treatment.
Rosemary Klinke then suffered a severe stroke, resulting in a complete left hemispheric stroke with right-sided hemiparesis, the complaint says. She now requires round-the-clock medical care and will need care the rest of her life, the complaint states.
The Klinkes are seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages, plus court costs. They are represented by attorney Thomas Falb of Alton.
