Granite City bar sued over patron's alleged attack

A man is suing over claims he was injured at a bar by a drunk patron.

Gregory Bixler filed a lawsuit July 28 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Nickally Corporation, doing business as Nick's Bar and Grill, citing the Dram Shop Act.

According to the complaint, Bixler was at Nick's Bar and Grill on Nameoki Road in Granite City on April 27, when he was attacked and beaten by intoxicated male patron Cory Tripp. The bar is accused of failing to intervene in the attack, serving the patron the intoxicating beverages and failing to protect other patrons from the threat of violence.

Bixler is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He is being represented in the case by attorney Ronald S. Motil of Beatty, Motil & Jones in Glen Carbon.

Madison County Circuit Court Case No. 14-L-1038.
