A woman who had sought representation for a wrongful termination claim in 2010 is now suing her former lawyer and firm for allegedly lying about work on her case.
Kara Boyd filed suit July 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Horas, Radice and Kellett LLC, now known as HR Law Firm LLC, and Timothy Kellett.
According to the complaint, Kellett, through the firm, agreed to represent Boyd in March 2010. From 2010 through March 2014 Kellett purported to have advanced Boyd's interests by indicating he had sent a letter of demand in July 2010, been in front of a judge numerous times, set depositions, looked into the defendant's financials, engaged in settlement discussions and finally settled the case for $140,000, the suit states. All of this turned out to be fabrications, as Kellett, a Missouri attorney, isn't licensed to for cases originating in Illinois, the suit states.
The defendants are accused of professional negligence, fraud, consumer fraud and breach of fiduciary duty.
Boyd is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, punitive damages and any other relief the court deems just. She is represented by Belleville attorney Jarrod P. Beasley of the Kuehn Law Firm.
