A patient who experienced renal failure after having a CT chest scan blames his doctors for his condition.
Virgil Hoffman filed a lawsuit July 28 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Anderson Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Sehy and Dr. Linda T. Haacke.
In his complaint, Hoffman alleges he had a CT chest scan at Anderson Hospital on Oct. 14. Before performing the scan, however, the defendant doctors allegedly failed to note that Hoffman suffered from chronic kidney disease with increased creatinine and failed to evaluate the risk factors for a CT scan, according to the complaint. Doctors also failed to correctly mark the CT protocol form to indicate that Hoffman should not be given a contrasting agent, the suit states.
Due to the doctors’ actions, Hoffman suffered acute renal failure, experienced pain and suffering, endured disability and incurred medical costs.
Hoffman seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs. He is being represented by attorney John J. Hopkins of John J. Hopkins and Associates in Alton.
