Dachshund Rescue of St. Louis, dog owners sued over claims dog attacked minor

A man is suing over claims his son was injured by relatives' rescue dog.

Eric Haugland, individually and as natural parent and next friend of Ramses Haugland, a minor, filed a lawsuit July 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Dawn Fischer, doing business as Dachshund Rescue of St. Louis, and Richard and Deborah Haugland, citing the Animal Control Act.

According to the complaint, Deborah Haugland adopted a dog from Fischer on Jan. 16, 2013, and on Jan. 28, 2013, the dog attacked Deborah's grandson, Ramses, causing serious injury and scarring to the boy's face. Fischer is accused of negligence in failing to train the dog or be certain of its vicious propensities before selling it. Richard and Deborah Haugland are accused of violating the Animal Control Act, strict liability and negligence.

Eric Haugland is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. He is being represented in the case by attorney Patrick G. King of King Law Firm LLC in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court Case No. 14-L-1029.
