Lung cancer asbestos case filed in St. Clair County

A married couple is suing, claiming the husband's lung cancer was caused by asbestos exposure.

Sandra Nunamaker and Ralph Nunamaker filed suit July 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Ameron International Corporation, Armstrong International Inc., BorgWarner Morse Tec Inc. and more than 50 other companies, citing asbestos exposure.

According to the complaint, Ralph Nunamaker was employed as a laborer at General Motors from 1968 to 1994. During his employment he was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed large amounts of asbestos fibers from products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants, according to the suit. As a result of his exposure, Ralph was diagnosed with lung cancer Dec. 21, 2012, the suit states.

The defendants knew or should have known the asbestos fibers contained in their products had a toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effect on the health of people absorbing them, the filing states.

The Nunamakers are seeking damages in excess of $50,000. They are represented by Edwardsville attorneys Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian & Associates PC.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-549.
