Smithton driver failed to stay in own lane, suit claims

A man claims he experienced pain and suffering after a driver lost control of his vehicle and caused a collision.

Christopher Eldridge filed a lawsuit July 8 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Wu Qingmao.

In his complaint, Eldridge claims he was driving south on South Main Street in Smithton on Dec. 20, when Qingmao, who was driving north on the same road, failed to stay in his lane and struck Eldridge’s vehicle.

In addition to his pain and suffering Eldridge suffered disability and disfigurement, incurred medical costs and lost income, according to the complaint. He also lost his normal life, incurred property damages and faces an increased risk for future injury, the suit states.

Eldridge blames Qingmao for causing his injuries, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive on his side of the road, drove without sufficient sleep and lost control of his vehicle.

Eldridge seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, but no more than $75,000, plus costs. He is being represented by attorney Daniel K. Juncker of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-537.
