A woman has filed suit against Kmart, alleging she slipped and fell on watermelon juice while shopping in the store.
Keppi L. Stephens filed suit July 2 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Kmart Stores of Illinois LLC.
According to the complaint, Stephens was shopping at the Kmart at 2851 E. Homer M. Adams Parkway in Alton on July 9, 2012, when she slipped on watermelon juice in the produce section of the store. Because of her fall, Stephens suffered an injury to her left shoulder, incurred medical costs, suffered disability, lost wages and experienced pain and suffering, according to the complaint.
Kmart negligently maintained the floor in an unsafe condition, allowed the floor to be slippery and failed to clean the floor, the suit states.
Stephens is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
She is being represented by attorney Doug Mendenhall and Christopher Mendenhall of Smith, Mendenhall, Selby and Cole in Alton.
