Trip and fall in American Steel Foundries parking lot leads to suit

A man is suing after he allegedly tripped and fell in a cracked parking lot.

Harvey Wilson filed suit June 17 in Madison County Circuit Court against ASF-Keystone Inc., doing business as American Steel Foundries.

According to the complaint, on June 22, 2012, the plaintiff was walking from the defendant's parking lot toward its facility at 1700 Walnut St. in Granite City when he slipped and fell on a sloped portion of the parking lot. That portion of the parking lot was deteriorated, cracked and unstable, causing the plaintiff to fall and become injured, according to the suit.

The defendant knew or should have known about the condition of the parking lot and the danger it posed but failed to use ordinary care to warn or remedy the situation, the suit states.

Wilson is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by St. Louis attorney Michael L. Knepper of Sauter Sullivan LLC.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-877.
