Woman claims Wood River police officer texted her inappropriate messages

A woman is suing the City of Wood River and one of its police officers after the officer allegedly texted her inappropriate messages.

Traci Quigley filed suit June 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Jeremy Elliot, individually and as police officer, and the city.

According to the complaint, on June 2, 2013, the defendant officer approached Quigley at her Madison County residence and ran her information, including cell phone number, through his police computer to determine if she had any outstanding warrants. Following the incident, through June 17, 2014, the defendant used the information to text the plaintiff inappropriate sexual messages and would park his police vehicle in an alley adjacent to Quigley's home, the suit says.

The defendants are accused of two counts of intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.

Quigley is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs and interest.

She is represented by East Alton attorneys Janel L. Freeman and Edward W. Unsell of the law office of Unsell & Schuman.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-865.
