Man blames nightclub for selling alcohol to driver before collision

A man claims he suffered severe arm and leg injuries when an allegedly intoxicated driver struck his vehicle.

Dustin Blackwell filed a lawsuit June 4 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mega Leasing Corp., doing business as Pop’s Nightclub and Concert Venue.

In his complaint, Blackwell claims he was driving north on Floraville Road in Millstadt on June 5, 2013, when James D. Weis Jr., who was driving south on the same road, drove across the center line and struck his vehicle.

Before the collision, the suit alleges Weis had purchased alcoholic beverages from Pop’s, causing him to become intoxicated.

As a result of the collision, Blackwell asserts he suffered permanent injuries, was hindered from attending to his usual duties and affairs, lost the value of his time and suffered great pain and anguish. He also incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Blackwell seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. He is being represented by attorney Ronald S. Motil of Beatty Motil & Jones in Glen Carbon.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-471.
