Edwardsville rear-end accident leads to suit

A man claims he suffered neck and back injuries when a driver rear-ended his vehicle.

Phillip J. Voss filed a lawsuit May 27 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Terrence L. Murphy.

In his complaint, Voss alleges he drove a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu west on Governors Parkway in Edwardsville and was stopped at a stop light at its intersection with Esic Drive on July 8, 2012. Suddenly, Murphy, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer in the same direction, struck the back of his vehicle, according to the complaint.

In addition to his injuries, Voss suffered great pain and mental anguish, was hindered from attending to his regular duties and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Voss blames Murphy for causing the collision, saying he failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop before causing a rear-end collision, failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and failed to timely apply his brakes.

Voss is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Ronald S. Motil of Beatty, Motil and Jones in Glen Carbon.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-771.
