A woman has filed suit against Schnuck Markets, alleging its employees failed to remove a clear, foreign substance from the floor in front of a ticket counter, causing her to fall.
Rhonda Johnson filed suit May 20 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Schnuck Markets Inc., doing business as Schnucks Cahokia No. 148.
According to the complaint, Johnson was shopping at the Schnuck Markets at 1615 Camp Jackson Road in Cahokia on Feb. 6. She was walking in the lottery line when she slipped on a clear substance that had accumulated on the floor, according to the complaint.
Because of her fall, Johnson became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, suffered left leg, back and right hand injuries and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also suffered disability and experienced pain and suffering, the complaint says.
Johnson blames Schnuck Markets for causing her fall, saying its managers failed to inspect and clean the premises in a safe condition, failed to have a safe procedure for cleaning foreign substances on the floor, failed to have a safe ingress and egress and failed to provide a safe place for Johnson to walk.
Johnson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Thomas C. Rich, Kristina D. Cooksey and Michelle M. Rich of Fairview Heights.
