Landlord files foreign judgment against leasing company

A landlord has filed a registration of foreign judgment against a leasing company, saying it has failed to satisfy a judgment rendered against it in another court.

Broadstone JLC Missouri LLC filed suit May 20 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jeffco Leasing Co. Inc., Kathleen M. Abeln and Ryan C. Abeln.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff claims a judge for St. Louis County Circuit Court entered a judgment against the defendants Feb. 18 for $315,355.03. However, the defendants have failed to satisfy the judgment, according to the current registration of foreign judgment.

Broadstone originally sued the defendants for an alleged breach of their lease agreement. The Abelns had guaranteed payment of the lease for a specified amount of time, according to the settlement agreement.

Broadstone is asking the court to register the St. Louis County judgment in its court. It is being represented by Sara Finan Melly, Christopher R. LaRose and Angela L. Odlum of Armstrong Teasdale in St. Louis.
