Walmart worker alleges retaliatory discharge after comp claim

A Madison County woman has filed suit against Walmart, alleging she lost her job at the store after she filed for workers’ compensation.

Lisa Freytag filed suit May 8 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Walmart Store No. 1071.

According to the complaint, Freytag was working for the Walmart store in Wood River for 13 years when she was injured while working April 19, 2012. Immediately following the injury, Freytag sought and received medical treatment, the suit states.

On April 23, 2014, while Freytag was working for Walmart, she was involuntarily terminated in retaliation for her filing an Illinois Workers’ Compensation claim, the complaint says.

Because of her job loss, Freytag lost income and the ability to generate income, she claims.

Freytag is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus punitive and exemplary damages, costs and other relief the court deems just. She is being represented in the case by David W. Dugan of East Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-686.
