A man who allegedly suffered shoulder injuries during a fall blames a Highland store for causing his injuries.
James Lakin filed a lawsuit May 1 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Casey’s Retail Company, doing business as Casey’s General Store.
In his complaint, Lakin alleges he was visiting Casey’s General Store on Dec. 27 when he fell on a foreign substance.
Due to his tumble, Lakin became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, incurred medical costs and suffered disability, according to the complaint. He also lost his normal life and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.
Lakin blames Casey’s General Store for causing his injuries, saying it negligently failed to maintain its premises in a safe condition, failed to inspect for the presence of a hazardous condition, failed to warn of a hazardous condition and allowed a foreign substance to accumulate on the floor.
He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. Lakin is being represented by Eric M. Rhein of Belleville.
