A nail technician has filed suit against her doctor, claiming she is no longer able to work due to his delayed response to the pseudoaneurysm in her arm.
Brenda Sperandio filed suit May 1 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert Lee, M.D. and Anderson Hospital.
According to the complaint, Dr. Lee waited for more than nine and a half hours before he performed a surgical decompression on the plaintiff's right upper arm to treat her pseudoaneurysm.
Before the decompression, Lee performed an angiogram Feb. 8, 2013, at defendant Anderson Hospital. Following the surgery, a nurse noted Sperandio’s right arm was swollen and firm, according to the complaint.
Because of Lee’s prolonged reaction to Sperandio’s medical issue, she suffered a diminished ability to enjoy life and incurred medical costs, the suit states. She also suffered severe emotional and mental anguish and lost income, the complaint says.
Sperandio blames Lee for causing her injuries, saying he negligently failed to offer prompt surgical decompression, failed a recognize an immediate surgical emergency and delayed surgery, causing permanent nerve damage.
In her two-count complaint, Sperandio is seeking a judgment of more than $1,000,000, plus costs. She will be represented by Keith Short and Zach Pashea of the Law Office of Keith Short in Edwardsville.
