Tumble down wet steps at Alton property leads to suit

A man has filed suit against the owners of an Alton home where he claims he slipped on wet, wooden steps.

Jeff Mauldin filed suit April 23 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Tim McCalla and Sandra Cunningham.

According to the complaint, Mauldin was descending the wooden steps at 711 Lampert Road in Alton on April 28, 2012, when he slipped on a wet stair and fell down 15 others. Because of his fall, Mauldin suffered severe and permanent injuries to his buttocks, back, neck and hips and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Mauldin blames the owners of the rental property, for causing his fall, saying they negligently failed to treat the steps, failed to use non-slip paint, failed to maintain the steps, failed to replace the steps, failed to warn guests about the condition of the steps, failed to provide adequate lighting and failed to inspect the steps.

Mauldin is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson, Webster, Falb and Glisson in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-622.
