A St. Clair County man is suing a hospital, doctors and nurses, claiming their alleged negligence caused him severe pain and suffering.
Donald Brown Jr. filed a lawsuit April 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Touchette Regional Hospital Inc., Dr. Levi S. Kirkland, Cynthia Thomas, Ginger Darty and Roshunda Gilliam, citing negligence.
Brown claims he underwent surgery April 8, 2012, to remove a section of his colon at the defendant's facility. The suit alleges on April 14-15, the employees of Touchette Regional Hospital attempted to assist Brown in removing a fecal impaction, using several enemas.
According to the brief, after the enemas were administered Brown's sutures ruptured, leaking stool and contaminated fluid into his abdomen, causing multiple severe medical conditions including sepsis and septic shock. Brown states he has incurred medical bills and has lost wages and benefits from his job as a result of the negligence of the defendants.
Brown is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, attorney's fees and court costs. He is being represented by attorney Ross T. Anderson.
