More than 100 plaintiffs have filed suit in St. Clair County alleging they sustained injury from taking the birth control drug Yaz/Yasmin.
Iris Colon is one of six Illinois plaintiffs in the suit filed April 1 against Bayer Corp., Bayer Healthcare LLC and Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc., citing strict product liability, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, fraud, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent misrepresentation, express warranty and implied warranty.
Out of state plaintiffs in the case number 121.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs suffered cardiothrombotic injury after ingesting the drug. The plaintiffs allege the defendants used deceptive and misleading advertising to promote the dangerous drug and failed to indicate additional risks present from drospirenone. The court document states the defendants either knew or should have known of the increased risks of Yaz/Yasmin and failed to warn consumers.
The plaintiffs are each seeking more than $50,000 in damages. They are being represented by John J. Driscoll of The Driscoll Firm PC.
