Driver disobeyed traffic signal, suit says

A man has filed suit against the driver he claims failed to obey a traffic signal and struck his vehicle.

Joseph E. Wilson filed suit March 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against John Metcalfe.

According to the complaint, Wilson was driving north on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton on Sept. 14 when the defendant, who was driving east on East Broadway, disobeyed a traffic signal and struck his vehicle.

Because of the collision, Wilson suffered neck, shoulder and back injuries, was hindered and prevented from attending to his usual duties and affairs, incurred medical costs and lost wages, according to the complaint.

Metcalfe negligently failed to yield to Wilson’s vehicle, disobeyed a traffic control device, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast and failed to reduce the speed of his vehicle when he saw Wilson’s vehicle approaching, the suit states.

Wilson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is being represented by Joseph E. Hoefert of Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number 14-L-448.
