Alton Belle sued by customer who allegedly tripped on raised carpet

A woman has filed suit against the Alton Belle Casino, saying she tripped on a carpet while attempting to play video gaming machines.


Michelle Pickett filed a lawsuit March 7 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Casino LLC.

According to the complaint, Pickett tripped over a raised section of carpet as she was walking in the facility on March 13, 2012.

Because of her fall, Pickett suffered a plateau fracture of her left knee, experienced pain and suffering in her left knee and has been unable to walk on her left leg, according to the complaint. She also suffered an inability to bear weight on her left leg, has been forced to walk on crutches and has had to get a universal walker, the suit states.

Pickett is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, but no more than $75,000, plus costs and fees. She will be represented by Jim Ellis of Ellis Law Firm in Belleville.
