Allegedly intoxicated driver caused injuries during collision, according to lawsuit

A woman has filed suit against an allegedly intoxicated driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle.

Brenda Hicks filed a suit March 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Christopher Langenstein.

According to the complaint, Hicks was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus on Pierce Boulevard near its intersection with North Green Mount Road in O’Fallon on May 13 when the defendant, who was driving a 2007 Ford on the same road, struck the back of her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Hicks sustained serious neck, back, left shoulder, left arm, left wrist and head injuries, incurred medical costs, suffered great pain and mental anguish and incurred disability, the suit. She also lost her normal life, the complaint says.

Hicks blames Langenstein for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive in a safe manner, drove too fast, failed to take evasive action to avoid a collision, failed to warn of his impending approach and failed to stop at the scene of an accident, among other negligent acts.

Hicks is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She will be represented by Steven E. Katzman of Katzman and Sugden in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-184.
