Driver blamed for causing various injuries in rear-end collision

A woman says she suffered permanent disabling and disfiguring injuries to her neck, back and body after a driver rear-ended her vehicle.

Kara Valentin filed a lawsuit March 5 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Gregory Litteken.

In her complaint, Valentin alleges she drove on Highway 177 near the Plum Hill School Road in Belleville on March 7, 2012, when Litteken, who was driving on the same road, struck the back of her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Valentin suffered great pain and mental anguish, lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

She blames Litteken for causing the collision, saying he failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop in a timely manner and failed to keep his vehicle under proper control.

Litteken is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is being represented by Shane M. Moskop of Freeark, Harvey and Mendillo in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-197.
